Job Search Productivity (51213744)
The Productivity Seminar is a pre-requisite for participation in a Job Search Work Team.
A half-day Productivity Seminar is used to establish a basis for productivity in the job search and for use in the Job Search Work Team. This seminar has participants examine their job search “game plans” and the job market paradigms on which these plans are based. It also involves participants in addressing two questions: “Why are people normally less productive in job search than in their chosen careers?” and “How can productivity in a job search be measured prior to an offer? (Or even prior to the first interview?)” Review MYSP: Introduction chapter, Milestones 1, 4, 5 & Search Project Organizer. Review JOB SEARCH WORK TEAM information on the Lee Hecht Harrison Career Resource Network (http://www.lhhcrn.com)
Job Search Work Teams (JSWT)
This ongoing job search productivity team of 8 – 12 clients meets regularly throughout the job search in two-hour meetings. Each team is facilitated by a LHH Consultant. Completion of the Job Search Productivity seminar is a pre-requisite for JSWT participation, as well as consultant referral. See additional pre-requisites below.*
The Job Search Work Team provides the kind of work environment that most managers and professionals are accustomed to: a structured work group which focuses on task and sets specific work goals and measurement of progress toward them, and offsets the isolation of extensive individual work. There are four ways in which the Team functions:
- As a job search productivity team, it monitors the progress of each individual, providing peer support in keeping productivity high. Team members also pledge a limited amount of time to work in behalf of other member’s searches in whatever reasonable ways are requested. Productivity is tracked using 14 quantitative measures.
- As an advisory panel, it provides guidance for the individual in dealing with the numerous questions which arise in implementing a search. In providing and hearing advice on a wide range of practical issues, members vastly accelerate their own learning in all areas of search.
- As a core network, it quickly multiplies each member’s network “reach”, resulting in the sharing of leads, information, and contacts. Team meetings are designed to accelerate networking within the group, and this intra-team networking becomes a learning laboratory for the networking process.
- As a support group, it provides support to aid in dealing with the emotional ups and downs which invariably accompany search. Its primary focus, however, is on task.
At each team meeting, each member reports activity for the prior week, briefly re-caps highlights, lists goals for the coming week and proposes items to be discussed by the team.
* (Other pre-requisites for team membership include: Resume, Exit Statement, Positioning Statement, Marketing Plan, Target List, 12 weeks service eligibility remaining).
