This Technical Reference defines the requirements for interfacing Digital Terminal Equipment (DTE) to services Employing the Extended Superframe Format (ESF). Specifically, the emphasis is on discussing the requirements of using the 4kbs ESF Data Link for performance messaging and commands that CPE must conform to in order to reap the benefits of interfacing with advanced ESF features. It also includes a discussion of the AT&T support and incorporation of ANSI T1.403 PRM’s.

Technically, Customer Installation (CI) addressing convention, loopback codes, circuit error and failure event parameters, maintenance message protocol and frame structure are defined and presented in detail.

Section 5 – Provides a discussion of the similarity and differences between TR 54016 and the ANSI T1.403 standard.
