- The strength of our leadership, our ability to build networks for the new economy, and the reliability of the networks we build constitutes AT&T's unique value. Our core competency is building high quality, reliable networks. Our leadership and vision is evident in strategic decisions we've made to position ourselves for the new economy, with global ventures, alliances and acquisitions. What's more this leadership is reflected in the many awards AT&T have won including Network Magazine's Product of the Year 2000 Award for our Global VPN Service.
- What is the I-VPN Services Offering?
- We are offering the capability to create secure Internet communications using IPSec tunneling technology. This means the ability to create secure communications between users accessing the Internet using our dedicated access offering (I-VPN Service-dedicated access), between users accessing the Internet using our single workstation dial service (I-VPN Service, VPN feature-dial access for single workstations) and between users accessing the Internet using our dial service for LANs (I-VPN Service, VPN feature – dial access for LANs). A VPN may be created using various combinations of the above user types.
- Why is this important?
- These services allow companies to create flexible intranets and extranets over the Internet in a cost effective manner using a company-wide security policy. In other words, it helps them to create Internet based virtual private networks at a lower price. Furthermore, the enhanced Internet security helps companies to deploy new and existing applications such as application hosting and electronic commerce. Last, the service provides scalability and flexibility to meet companies growing needs.
- How is this service positioned with AT&T's current Managed Data Network Services offering?
- AT&T Global Network Services provides VPNs through our shared MDNS Frame Relay service. Dependant upon applications the marketplace also demands VPN's with security using tunnelling and encryption techniques over a more open, Internet type of environment.
- What type of cost savings does the I-VPN Service offer?
- The cost saving offered by the I-VPN Service over those provided by the more traditional Network Services offering is at least 25%.
- What type of company can benefit from I-VPN Services?
- Our Internet virtual private network service is addressing specifically small and medium businesses that need low cost, full feature solutions to their network access requirements. Internet VPN's are also a viable solution for large companies with existing intranets and extranets who wish to economically extend their applications to their remote offices and business partners, or use secure Internet connections as a backup option for their private network.
- What is the predicted growth of Virtual Private Networks?
- Yankee Group reports that the European VPN market, which totalled $600m in 1999, is predicted to grow to $2.7bn by the end of 2002. (Yankee Group 1999) Similarly Cahners In-Stat Group reported that outsourced VPN's which represented only 2% of the market in 1998 would grow to account for 90% of the market by 2003. (Cahners In-Stat Group 1999)
- What level of support can I expect from AT&T?
- For the AT&T I-VPN Services, customer support is available on a 24x7 basis, with local language support for a large number of European languages during office hours and support in English outside of office hours. AT&T utilise real time network status and performance tools that proactively measure performance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and provide end to end accountability.
- What level of security does I-VPN Services provide?
- I-VPN Services feature Cisco's IPSec. A framework of open standards for ensuring secure private communications over the internet. IPSec provides a necessary component of a standards based flexible solution for deploying a network wide security policy.
