Mohawk Hones Telecom Infrastructure With New Technology From AT&T
Converging voice and data eliminates costs of maintaining two circuits
ATLANTA – AT&T has implemented an advanced networking solution for Mohawk Industries Inc. that converges voice and data services onto a single circuit, offering expanded capabilities while reducing costs. Previously, Mohawk, a leading supplier of flooring for both residential and commercial applications, maintained separate circuits for voice and data linking more than 300 facilities scattered across the United States.
Now, Mohawk uses an integrated connectivity service, part of a multimillion dollar contract with AT&T that dynamically allocates bandwidth so voice and data traffic can traverse the network on a single circuit without hitting bottlenecks.
Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) has also been implemented, which increases network intelligence and capabilities by adding “tags” to the data that traverse the network. The tags intelligently route and assign a priority to each packet of data, so critical applications -- such as voice and video -- move easily across the network, improving performance and quality. The converged network also saves Mohawk money by lowering network maintenance costs.
Mohawk has a reputation of reliable delivery service to their customers supported by forward thinking technology. Mohawk's network supports supply-chain management applications accessible at sales, distribution, and manufacturing centers nationwide.
“The Mohawk and AT&T project team worked together seamlessly to roll-out a next generation voice and data network in just six months, which is already providing great benefits to our business,” said Jevin Jensen, director of Technical Services at Mohawk Industries Inc.
