AT&T's Network Disaster Recovery Team held its third quarter 2004 exercise in Foster City, California, twenty miles south of San Francisco. The exercise began on Friday, July 16, and concluded on Wednesday, July 21, 2004. The team trained using three of its newest technology trailers and recertified a component of its disaster recovery process.

The drill included fifty NDR Operations Team members, from across the United States, and twelve technology and support trailers. The team hosted employee tours on July 19 and customer tours on July 20.

During the exercise week, AT&T gave a grant for $40,000 to the City of San Francisco to develop its own search and rescue dog capability. Four dogs, and their handlers, will be trained by the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation.
