Dedicated Entrance Facility (DEF) is a high capacity, point-to-point dedicated communications path that is available in a choice of bandwidths, and provides a direct SONET interface between service locations:
-
Two node - customer premise and a local network service node
-
Three node - customer premise, an AT&T local network service node, and another designated customer premise
AT&T's DEF gives you a private connection into the AT&T network, bundling all your local services into one package and allowing you to customize the flow of communications between your agency's offices - establishing, for instance, a short-term, big-pipe connection to one site and a long-term connection to another. You literally create a custom network of varying bandwidths that specifically fit the diverse needs of your agency. Mileage-based, regional pricing applies for the service, and it is offered at the following bandwidth levels:
- OC-3
- OC-12
- OC-48
- Wavelength (beta trial)
How Does It Work?
AT&T DEF provides a channelized high capacity, dedicated communication path between your premises and the AT&T local node, or between your two premises and the AT&T local node. It provides flexibility to connect to AT&T for access to AT&T core data and voice services, and also provides connectivity to other IXC POPs and Local Exchange carriers (2-Node DEF only).
Where Is It Available?
AT&T DEF is currently available on the AT&T Local Network in more than 67 Metropolitan areas in the U.S.
