The GNOC staff can adjust the AT&T network’s characteristics, temporarily increasing the available capacity to respond to an event or to a customer need. We also use protective controls to stop traffic that could harm the network because of intentional ill will or due to volume-related congestion.
To assure the highest level of service reliability, the GNOC oversees the planning and scheduling of all potentially service-impacting maintenance work or upgrades in the network. Internal restrictions are put in place during high traffic periods and during high traffic events, preventing non-critical work that could affect network performance. The GNOC provides AT&T’s contingency planning for predictable network situations, including National Special Security Events.
