AT&T Foundation Supports United Way in India to Maximize Community Impact at Local Level

New Delhi & Bangalore, India, 24 Jun 2009 — The AT&T Foundation, the philanthropy arm of AT&T*, has announced a contribution of US$5,000 (INR240,625) to United Ways of Bengaluru and Delhi in India. The contribution will support the work of United Way to serve the community’s neediest people by providing essential resources in India.

United Ways of Bengaluru and Delhi are affiliated with United Way International which aims to help create lasting changes in local community’s quality of life. United Way International has a global network of more than 3,000 local nonprofit organizations operating in 47 countries and territories. Each United Way organization’s work happens at local level because local leaders best understand the community’s needs and opportunities.

The first United Way organization in India was established in Baroda, Gujarat in July 1986 and it was formally affiliated with United Way International in the same year. In addition, United Way has presence in Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai and Hubli-Dharwad. The AT&T Foundation’s contribution will help United Ways of Bengaluru and Delhi to continue its work to advance the common good by focusing on education, income and health.

Since the inception of the United Way, AT&T has been a proud supporter in the US. AT&T hosts an annual United Way campaign, giving employees a variety of ways to offer support, including one-time or ongoing donations, a national online auction, and local fundraising events.
