The Remote Working Revolution

Remote working has emerged as a key factor driving corporate success according to new survey and report on networking and business strategy from AT&T in co-operation with the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

Companies are overcoming their concerns about remote working, and the technology to enable it is improving steadily. Employees can expand their working day, operate more productively and in many respects lead healthier lives. Employers save on office overheads, are not limited to hiring those able to relocate to where they’re based and get better performance from their staff.

The Economist Intelligence Unit conducted a global survey of 254 senior executives on behalf of AT&T. Based on the findings of this survey, as well as in-depth interviews with business leaders, this paper draws a number of key conclusions:

  • 66% of executives said that most of their staff are able to work from home regularly.
  • 81% believe that providing remote access as a 'critical' or 'important' network goal.
  • 20% of companies currently use VoIP for remote working, 79% expect to be by 2006.

These and other findings are presented in a new report called The remote working revolution, which is available to download now.
