The dramatic rise of online education and the lessons learned by academic institutions and new education entrepreneurs engaged in distance education will be presented. Hear about the promise and peril of internet delivered education. President-Elect of the US Distance Learning Association, Marci Powell, will present an overview of the current state of affairs of online learning in higher education.
Dr. Andy DiPaolo, Executive Director, Stanford Center for Professional Development and Senior Associate Dean, School of Engineering at Stanford University, will share the results of Stanford University's studies on the changing needs of lifelong learners and provide advice on the institutional strategies required to insure the successful offering of anywhere/anytime education. Stanford University annually offers more than 350 programs representing 14,000 hours of online education ranging from complete graduate degree courses to technical seminars delivered to professionals, managers and executives in over 40 countries.

Dr. Andy DiPaolo is the founding Executive Director of the Stanford Center for Professional Development, an organization which includes one of the largest distance education networks delivering graduate and professional education programs to knowledge workers in Silicon Valley and around the world. DiPaolo, at Stanford since 1988, has a long history as an advisor to public and private sector groups in North America, Europe and the Pacific Rim on the strategic use of technology to address education and training needs, the development of virtual universities and the creation of new models for distributed learning. Marci Powell, AT&T Director of Education Advocacy, and US Distance Learning President-Elect serves AT&T through consulting, professional speaking, and delivery of training to ensure organizations are successful in technology integration.
