AT&T Global Services Builds Hope with Habitat for Humanity Society of Greater Vancouver
AT&T Contributes $10,000 to Construct a Home for a Deserving Family in Burnaby, B.C.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 30, 2008 - AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) today announced a contribution of $10,000 to Habitat for Humanity Society of Greater Vancouver. The funding from AT&T will help the society build a new town house for an underprivileged family in Burnaby, B.C.
Local AT&T employees and valued customers will help construct the home by bringing out their power tools and participating in two days of building. The volunteers will also work alongside the deserving family, which is required to invest 500 hours of “sweat equity” in building its new home. In the past 22 years, Habitat for Humanity has helped more than 1,000 Canadian families move out of inadequate housing conditions or homelessness and into secure living conditions and homeownership.
“Unfortunately, many Canadians don’t need to look farther than their own backyards to witness the high-cost of substandard living conditions,” said Anneke Rees, executive director, Habitat for Humanity Society of Greater Vancouver. “AT&T’s support is helping us achieve our goal of providing Canadians with affordable housing, and as a result, AT&T is improving the life of a deserving family living in the Vancouver area.”
The Habitat for Humanity Society of Greater Vancouver is one of 72 affiliates across Canada and 3,000 globally, and its mandate is to end the cycle of poverty through healthy living conditions and homeownership. The homes are sold to deserving families at no profit and are financed with manageable zero-interest mortgages. Through funding and building-material contributions, the society is currently constructing a 27 town-house community in Burnaby.
“AT&T Global Services encourages all Canadians to do their part to help end poverty in Canada and around the world,” said Robert Helm, director of sales, AT&T Global Services Canada Co. “We are proud to support Habitat for Humanity and its efforts to provide Canadians and all global citizens with the building blocks for a successful future.”
